Glastonbury’s Shangri-La announces full line-up and theme for this year’s festival

Shangri-La has announced its full line-up and theme for this year’s Glastonbury.

Returning to Worthy Farm in Somerset from Wednesday, 22nd June through Sunday, the 26th, the area — which is one of the festival’s dance and electronic music-focused districts alongside the likes of Silver Hayes, Block9 and Arcadia — is running with the theme of We The People, which is centered on “community, collaboration and hope for the next generation”.

As well as sets by the likes of Fatboy Slim, Goldie and more on the Gas Tower, the district will once again play host to the Truth stage, which will see performances by the likes of Bob Vylan and Kae Tempest, and the in-person debut of Yours Truthfully, a billboard-based exhibition by Malcolm Garrett and Kaye Dunnings. Shangri-La will also have a representation of rap music including a performance from Potter Payper, and a Plugged In showcase from Fumez The Engineer.

Elsewhere, while Earache Records will take over Truth, Shangrilart will present a collaboration of various visual artists from across the world. Nomad, meanwhile, promises a new, “radical area brought to you by a powerful collection of the UK’s most inspiring and subversive minds.”

A theatrical, immersive installation, this year’s Shangri-La will also feature the likes of Platform 23, a new area celebrating genre-spanning underground culture, and will see the return of The Sistxrhood, which is open only to femme (or female), lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans people.

“Shangri-La 2022 is an adventure into possibility; exploring human connection in all its unique forms — past, present and future,” said organisers. “From sitting around a fire-pit sharing past experiences to delving into emerging new technologies to connect globally, there are so many ways we can come together.

“This sprawling interactive installation aims to celebrate humanity — what makes us human, and how we can collectively make change,” they added. “By holding a mirror up to the masses, creating conversations, encouraging activism and stimulating all of the senses at the same time, Shangri-La aims to expand minds and open hearts, motivating people in politics and play.”

The news comes a few weeks after the festival revealed the full set times for its dance stages.
