Glastonbury sold “a few thousand less tickets” to avoid overcrowding in 2025, Emily Eavis says
Glastonbury has sold “a few thousand less tickets” for its 2025 edition in an attempt to combat overcrowding.
Emily Eavis revealed the news during an interview with Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw for the BBC’s Sidetracked podcast. She added that she wanted to see if the reduction “can make an impact on some of the busier times” in certain areas of the site.
This means that despite being sold out, Glastonbury will not this year use its full 210,000 capacity. Other measures have also been put in place with crowd control in mind, including creating more space in the Other Stage field, housing the festival’s second biggest stage. This is where Charli xcx and The Prodigy will headline on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Glastonbury 2025 will also see dance music areas expanded this year following criticism relating to overcrowding at the 2024 festival. The festival will attempt to make people aware of the various different routes they can take to different parts of the site in an effort to stop certain areas from getting overcrowded as people move between stages too.
“Interestingly, people have moved slightly differently since COVID-19, so they tend to move more in a herd,” Eavis said. “So my main thing really this year is just to communicate that there are like 10 routes to anywhere.”
Organisers will be able to predict which areas are likely to be busiest by tracking the most popular artists selected among fans who use the festival app’s schedule planner. They can then use that to warn festival-goers of expected congestion.
“The app was really accurate last year,” Eavis told Sidetracked. “People plan what they’re going to see. We can see what they’re going to see, which is really useful for us from a crowd perspective.”
This year’s festival runs from Wednesday, 25th June until Monday, 30th June. Four Tet, Floating Points, Maribou State, Caribou, Leftfield and more will play across the event, with the full line-up and set times having been announced earlier this month.
