Fugees rapper Pras drops Lauryn Hill diss track following anniversary tour cancellation
Fugees rapper Pras has dropped a diss track aimed at bandmate Lauryn Hill following the sudden cancellation of US dates marking the 25th anniversary of landmark album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’.
The song, ‘Bar Mitzfa’, was originally teased in an Instagram Story. It was then unveiled in full through a TMZ Hip Hop exclusive on Tuesday 13th August. While referencing a number of topics, including Pras’ 2023 conviction for a political money laundering conspiracy, the lyrics mainly focus on Hill’s conduct.
Among other things, she’s called out for being late to stage at shows, and last week’s hushed announcement an entire US leg of the Fugees’ Miseducation Anniversary Tour would not go ahead. The first in the run of dates was due to take place in Tampa, Florida, on Friday 9th August.
“No one will remember: click bait beefs, how many Gucci bags you owned, bogus excuses,” the lyrics to ‘Bar Mitzfa’ read. “People will remember: How you made them feel, if you kept your word, if they could count on you, if you come on time!!!”
Pras has already publicly stated he understands the anger of fans left waiting hours for Hill’s solo concerts to start, or being told dates aren’t happening just days in advance. In an interview last week, he told TMZ “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story but oops … cat’s out the bag.”
Hill has already published a statement on social media responding to criticism over the new cancellations. Citing a serious vocal strain that has seen her using prescribed prednisone in order to sing, she blasted “some media outlets” for sensationalism, claiming “clickbait headlines” around the cancellation of shows last year due to the same injury hurt ticket sales, the perception of, and narrative around the tour.
UK and European dates on the Miseducation Anniversary Tour were still scheduled to go ahead as planned at the time of writing.
