Erika De Casier surprise releases new album, ‘Lifetime’: Listen

Erika de Casier has surprise-released a new album, ‘Lifetime’.

Featuring 11 tracks, it builds on the trip-hop-influenced sound of past records and follows last year’s ‘Still’ LP. After releasing her last two albums with 4AD, this latest effort sees de Casier return to putting out records via her own Independent Jeep Music imprint.

Written and produced entirely by the artist herself, she first teased the album last month when she put a limited number of nameless cassettes featuring the record up for sale on Bandcamp. She worked on it over the course of 15 months between August 2023 and November 2024.

“‘Midnight Caller’ was actually the first working title for the album,” de Casier said in a statement. “I wanted it to be a form of communication during the night.”

She added: “There’s an underlying feeling of mortality, knowing that time is going exponentially faster the older you get, a fear of death and of looking and feeling old and being grateful for what was, is, and will be.”
