DMX will be honoured in his hometown of Yonkers, New York with a street or statue named after him.

The rapper passed away on April 9th after being placed on life support following a heart attack on April 2nd, and TMZ has now reported that the Mayor of Yonkers, Mike Spano, wants to remember DMX in his hometown with a mural, street name or statue, depending on what his family would prefer.

After DMX’s death, Spano tweeted: “Today our city mourns the loss of a musical icon and someone who always gave back to Yonkers – the city he loved.

“Earl Simmons, aka @DMX, was a man of exceptional talent. His spirit will live on in the power of his music and leave a lasting impact on his tremendous following.”

A public memorial for the rapper will also take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center this Saturday, April 24th, as Billboard reports. Page Six says the event will be closed to the public but broadcast via livestream as current COVID-19 regulations in New York restrict such arenas to 10 percent capacity.

A DMX track, featuring Swizz Beats and French Montana, was released posthumously last week.
