De La Soul release limited-edition ‘The Grind Date’ vinyl for 20th anniversary

De La Soul’s ‘The Grind Date’ has been reissued on CD and vinyl to mark its 20th anniversary.

In addition to the full original album, the updated release takes in two bonus cuts, ‘Bigger’ and ‘Respect’, which were recorded during the studio sessions for the record. There are also instrumental versions of four tracks from ‘The Grind Date’ featured.

“With the 20th Anniversary of ‘The Grind Date’, we just feel blessed in knowing that we put together this album that, right now, with its re-release feels fresh,” said De La Soul’s Posdnuos in a statement. “It doesn’t feel outdated, the lyrics feel relevant. It really feels good to know that with the re-release of this album, it takes myself and Mase back to knowing that this album was the first album done outside of our Tommy Boy relationship, and it stands the test of time alongside that catalogue, so yeah it’s a blessing.”

A brand new microsite devoted to celebrating the anniversary has also been launched, and can be explored here.

Originally released in 2004, ‘The Grind Date’ was De La Soul’s seventh studio album, and features contributions from Common, MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah and Sean Paul, among others.

Earlier this month, De La Soul’s Maseo revealed that there are plans to record a new album, which would be their first studio album since the passing in 2023 of Trugoy The Dove.
