Dayzero – Step Inna
On New Year’s Day last year, Ben UFO handed the reins of the Hessle Audio Rinse show over to a fairly unknown Tokyo producer, Dayzero. A Hessle Audio co-sign is no small feat and Dayzero delivered, fluidly moving across the bass continuum — dubstep melting into UK techno — using primarily his own tracks. His latest EP, ‘Step Inna’ further cements his status as a rising star. The title track, for example, is a minimalist dubstep nightmare of empty space while the drums on ‘Remains’ sits somewhere between Livity Sound, broken beat and ’90s hardgroove. These are weapons-grade bass tracks by a producer who feels like he’s just getting started.
