David K, the French DJ and producer who was part of Freak n' Chic, has died

David K, real name David Kemoun, the French DJ and producer who was part of Freak n’ Chic, has died.

The news was shared yesterday (3rd) in a post on social media from Kemoun’s long-time friend and label mate, Dan Ghenacia. “I can’t find the words… my heart is broken,” Ghenacia’s post reads. “I still can not believe that this is real and that i will never see you again. I am going to miss you so much brother… all my thoughts are going to your family and friends RIP.” No cause of death has been shared.

The Paris-born DJ and producer made his debut in 2002 on Parisian house label Sismic Records, and soon fell in with the city’s underground electronic scene, specifically the minimal sound. He was soon releasing records via Ghenacia & David Duriez’s iconic Freak n’ Chic imprint, home to releases from the likes of Shonky, Sweet Light, Jamie Jones, :TERRY:, and Sébastien Bouchet, and was an integral part of the label family.

Perhaps his best-known track, the 12″ ‘Boul De Nerf’, was released via Freak N Chic in 2007. Kemoun also released music on his own deep house label, TONE SERIES, as well as LumièresLaNuit, Apollonia Music, Sven Väth’s Cocoon Recordings and Belgian label Strobe Music.

Speaking to DJ Mag, Ghenacia said “His creativity in the studio was one of kind.”
