Darude ‘Sandstorm’ Helsinki “fun-run” announced for 25th anniversary

Darude is set to mark 25 years of his career, and the anniversary of his classic single ‘Sandstorm’, with a “fun-run” that will be open to the public.

Taking place in Helsinki on Sunday, 31st August, the six-kilometre run will pass through various sights from the music video for ‘Sandstorm’, including Kaivopuisto and Helsinki Cathedral. Darude will be present at the event and will cheer on the runners who take part at the finish line.

The run will go ahead a week before the Finnish leg of the DJ and producer’s STORM 25 World Tour, and participants are encouraged to dress in clothing that matches the spirit of the ‘Sandstorm’ video.

In a statement, Darude said: “It’s amazing to celebrate my career right where it all began. The ‘Sandstorm’ video is still watched around the world, and it’s incredible to see it come alive again through the runners. I hope as many people as possible join us to have fun and get moving.”

Tickets to take part in the run are available here, where you can also find more information on the event.

Earlier this month, ‘Sandstorm’ was played simultaneously on multiple major Finnish radio stations to mark 25 years since its release.

Last year, he told DJ Mag about the making of the track, and how it “went viral before viral was a thing”
