Dar Disku announce debut album on Soundway Records, share ‘Dbayli’: Listen

Dar Disku have announced the release of their debut album for Soundway Records, and shared its first single, ‘Dbayli’.

Out on 27th September, the self-titled LP will act as a “transportive portal into their expansive world” and comprise original recordings using “analogue techniques.” The album draws from a variety of influences, including Egyptian folk, Turkish psych, Algerian rai, Sudanese funk, Ethiopian jazz and Khaleeji disco.

The artwork for ‘Dar Disku’ was shot by photographer Fethi Sahraou. Each single will also be visually represented by a photograph taken by Bahraini photographer Ishaq Madan.

The Bahrain-via-London duo of Mazen Almaskati and Vish M AKA Dar Disku have teased the LP’s release with a new track and video, ‘Dbayli,’ which features Algerian singer Yacine Elkhaldi. Check it out below and pre-order the album here.

“Sonically we have tried to capture what time traveling with Dar Disku through our different influences would feel like,” say the pair in a press release. “And although inspired directly some of our favourite hidden gems from the past, the sound of this record remains unmistakably rooted in our present day where current influences from electronic genres, hip hop, jazz and psychedelia also shine through.”

In May, Soundway traced the origins of the ’80s electronic highlife movement in Ghana for compilation ‘Electronic Highlife & Afro Sounds In The Diaspora, 1980-93’.
