Daphni, aka Caribou’s Dan Snaith, shares new single and video, ‘Sad Piano House’: Watch

Dan Snaith is back under his Daphni moniker with a new single, ‘Sad Piano House’.

Built around a  bittersweet piano melody, the track is driven forward by a snappy, energising beat with fleeting vocal snippets peppered throughout. Released via his own Jiaolong label, the new track arrives with a tongue-in-cheek visualiser featuring a looped image of a road leading to a sad-looking house on a piano keyboard.

Speaking on the new track, Snaith commented: “I DJ’ed a lot last year in the lead up to the Caribou album and inevitably ended up making a bunch of new music to play out in those sets. I’d made this one but knew that I wasn’t sure about it or when it would ever get a release so I sent it over to Ben UFO and he started playing it and people started asking me about it. Now I’ve finally got a chance to finish it off and release it. I’d given it the temporary title ‘sad piano house’ when I sent it because it’s piano house… but, you know, not that kind of piano house… I didn’t really intend for that to be the final track title but once it appeared in a couple of tracklists for radio shows and people started asking about it, the title stuck.”

‘Sad Piano House’ comes just two weeks after the release of ‘Unidos’, his collab with Peruvian DJ and producer Sofia Kourtesis, but is his first solo Daphni release since ‘Cherry’ in 2022.

Snaith’s most recent full-length outing as Caribou was last year’s ‘Honey’, an album that blurred the boundaries between his two aliases, incorporating elements of garage, bassline, house music, hyperpop, and more.
