Carl Cox on premiering his new live show at Ultra: “I’m hoping for mayhem and chaos”

Carl Cox has said he is “hoping for mayhem and chaos” when he debuts his Evolution live show at Ultra Music Festival today (29th March) in an interview with DJ Mag at the festival.

Cox will premiere the new live show on the RESISTANCE Mega Structure tonight as part of Ultra’s 25th anniversary edition.

“The live show really consists of me being able to play the machines in a way that I’ve pre-programmed a lot of the sounds and ideas on tracks that I’ve been making over the years,” he told DJ Mag. “I will be introducing some of my remixes, of which I’ve made over the years, and will be improvising those remixes, and also some classic tracks that I played here.

“Two hours is quite a lot to be doing [an] electronic live show, but I’ll be able to fill that two hours with some really exciting music, and there’s a lot of improvisation inside the performance, as well, inside of what I’m creating. I’m trying to build an atmosphere. Whatever I do or whatever I touch actually creates a mood in the room. I’m hoping for mayhem and chaos.

“We have an amazing intro which goes on for about two-and-a-half minutes, and then once it starts, there’s no going back I’ve chosen the perfect record for the start, and then I’ll be basically choosing the tracks as it goes along.

“There’s a lot of different kind of ideas of electronic music, including breakbeat and all sorts of wonderful sounds and some tracks that people know and love. I’m going to be very, very excited to be able to perform this set.”
