Burial sent soundtrack for new Harmony Korine film via PS5, director reveals
Burial submitted his score for Harmony Korine’s new film, Baby Invasion, via PlayStation 5.
The cult director revealed that he hasn’t met the low key UK producer and his collaborator on his latest feature in a press conference, as reported by Variety. Korine said that he “didn’t want to reveal too much [about Burial] out of ‘respect’, but said that he has never actually met or spoke to him” other than through messaging on Discord and PS5.
“I mean, Burial’s amazing. He’s a legend”, Korine said. “We got in touch with each other, but I never actually met Burial and I never actually spoke with Burial. So it was all done through Discord messages, and we’d kind of talk on PS5. And then the music was sent through PS5.”
Baby Invasion, the new experimental film from the Spring Breakers and Kid director, premiered on 31st August at this year’s Venice Film Festival, ongoing through 7th September. Variety reports it received an 8.5-minute standing ovation. The home invasion film is shot in the perspective of a first-person shooter video game and uses AI to replace the criminals’ faces with babies’ faces.
This year Burial has released the ‘Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above‘ single on XL Recordings and a split EP with Kode9, called ‘Phoneglow / Eyes Go Blank‘, on Hyperdub.
