Bklava announces ‘c u l8r’ mixtape, shares single: Listen

London-based DJ and producer Bklava has shared details of a new mixtape, ‘c u l8r’.

Set for release this June via their recently launched label, Spin Suga, the tape is set to feature a number of new tracks by Bklava, including the track ‘Make It Work’, which came out in October of last year.

Described as “an homage to club culture”, ‘c u l8r’ is preceded by the speed garage-influenced new cut ‘Makes Me (Wanna Move)’, which is a collaboration with the producer Bullet Tooth. You can listen to it below.

In a statement, Bklava said: “‘Makes Me (Wanna Move)’ is a speed garage number that nods to the wobbly baselines of the early 2000s that paved the way for dubstep. When writing new music, I’ll always draw on my inspirations and reminisce on prominent moments in my life and how they affected me at that time. With my focus on club music, I looked back at all the times I’ve been in those dark, sweaty, intimate spaces with my person and wanted to write about the emotions that can take over when you’re both connected in that moment.

“I always love a track with a heavy bassline juxtaposed with a sweet vocal and I wanted to pay homage to these inspirations and put my spin on that with Bullet Tooth who’s paving the way in the UK bass scene right now.”

The Brighton-based label Spin Suga originated as a platform aimed at uplifting women and non-binary electronic artists to pursue careers in the music industry. Having previously hosted events, livestreams and more, the platform is now expanding into an imprint for Bklava and other likeminded artists to share their music with this mixtape marking its first major release.
