Berlin club Watergate announces 20th anniversary celebrations with events, vinyl and fashion collab
Iconic Berlin club Watergate has announced a flurry of 20th anniversary celebrations with events, a vinyl compilation and a fashion collaboration all lined up for the coming months.
Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Acid Pauli and Solomun are due to play the club in October, while Watergate’s resident DJs will be touring both nationally and internationally under the banner Watergate 20 Years (#W20) that same month, taking in an appearance at Amsterdam’s ADE among other festvials.
In October, a fashion collaboration with Irie Daily will “match the club’s culture”, offering an “old-school club tracksuit”, as well as hoodies, T-shirts, and other accessories.
November will see the release of the ‘Watergate 20 Years’; a triple gatefold vinyl on the in-house label spanning around 20 exclusive tracks by artists such as Solomun, Anja Schneider, Adana Twins, Joplyn, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Extrawelt, and more.
Watergate underwent an initial six-month renovation process before opening its doors in Kreuzberg in 2002. “From the beginning, we felt the magic that this place right by the river unfolds – especially in the morning hours,” recalls operator and co-founder Ulrich Wombacher. The club later evolved into a Berlin clubbing mainstay with an internally recognised reputation.
