Bandcamp Fridays to return on 4th February
News
Bandcamp Fridays are returning from next month.
The fee-free initiative, which was launched in March 2020 as a way to support artists impacted by coronavirus, will return from 4th February. As with previous Bandcamp Fridays, the platform will waive its revenue share for all sales taken on the day, thereby allowing creators 100% of proceeds.
In a statement, the online record store confirmed that the initiative – which takes place on the first Friday of a given month – will be extended until at least May 2022.
“On the first Friday of the month since March of 2020, we’ve waived our revenue share to help support the many artists who have seen their livelihoods disrupted by the pandemic,” the statement read. “Over the course of 17 days, fans paid artists and labels more than $70 million dollars, helping cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and much more.”
“If you’re among the nearly 800,000 fans who participated, thank you. It will likely be several months before live performance revenue returns in full. So we’re going to continue doing Bandcamp Fridays in 2022, on 4 February, 4 March, 1 April, and 6 May.”
