Audio-Technica’s new high-end turntable pairs design with “pure analogue sound”

Audio-Technica has launched a new high-end turntable called the AT-LPA2.

The new unit is transparent and has a high-density acrylic chassis, which showcases the player’s inner workings, while providing what Audio-Technica calls “exceptional resonance control” to help with any unwanted vibrations that might interfere with playback. The LPA2 is of belt-driven design, and uses an optical sensor underneath the spindle that monitors the platter rotation to ensure accurate playback at both 33-1/3rd and 45 RPM.

Audio-Technica has also separated the power supply and control unit from the internal unit, which is claimed to help prevent potential electrical interference, “preserving the clarity of your music”. The turntable also features a newly designed carbon-fibre tone arm and finely adjusted weighted anti-skid mechanism for uninterrupted playback. Underneath, there’s heavy-duty, height-adjustable feet providing isolation from surface vibration.

The new unit is being launched alongside a series of cartridges called the AT-VMx series which, according to Audio-Technica, deliver the “best sound quality in the history of Audio-Technica VM cartridges”, along with some extra tweaks and improvements. There are nine new carts in total, and they start at £99.

The AT-LPA2 can be yours for £1,699 and is available now. Fine out more on the Audio-Technica website.

Last year, Audio-Technica launched a brand new turntable aimed at audiophiles called the AT-LP8X.
