$1 million raised for DMX’s family following Kanye West Balenciaga collaboration

Kanye West’s collaboration with Balenciaga to commemorate the late rapper DMX has raised over $1 million for his family, TMZ reports.

Kanye’s fashion label, Yeezy, enlisted Balenciaga to create a shirt paying tribute to the hip hop star, and the line of $200 shirts sold out in 24 hours. The shirt, which you can see above, places an image of DMX and his logo at the centre of the front DMX graphic is placed on the centre of the shirt. His date of birth and date of death are printed on the sleeves.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, passed away on April 9th after being placed on life support following a heart attack on April 2nd. A memorial to the rapper was held at New York’s Barclays Centre last weekend, with West enlisted to help with stage design and getting his Sunday Service choir on board to perform also. It was streamed online via YouTube for fans to watch, due to the friends and family policy enforced by COVID-19.

It was revealed last week that Simmons will be honoured with a statue or a street being named after him in his hometown of Yonkers, New York.

A track by the rapper, featuring Swizz Beats and French Montana, was also posthumously released earlier this month.
