Brazilian DJ and producer Alok has launched his own philanthropic and social institute, Instituto Alok – donating $5.2 million to the scheme so far.

Alok’s initiative aims to finance projects to foster access to social opportunities in vulnerable areas of Brazil, particularly aimed at young people and women. Taking inspiration from the many charities the DJ has supported in the past, Instituto Alok will focus on three pillars: ‘Entrepreneurship’, ‘Social Gastronomy’ (food security) and ‘Expansion of Consciousness’ (human development).

Speaking in a press release, Alok said: “The idea of the Alok Institute is something very important to me, because it really is an idea that gives my life meaning. I have already had some intense periods of depression for feeling emptiness, until I realized that the search for a purpose in life is essential.”

With a massive international following and cult status in South America, Alok shot up six places to claim the fifth spot in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll 2020. This year, he has remixed music for Dua Lipa and The Rolling Stones, and recently released his new collaborative single, ‘On & On’, with Lithuanian producer Dynoro.

Instituto Alok will be made official tomorrow, 19th December, during Alok’s first end of year live stream broadcasted on YouTube from 21:00 BRT.
