Premiere: Kristin Velvet ‘Wasp Nest’
Kristin Velvet will release a new two-track EP, ‘Wasp Nest/Get Down’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Wasp Nest’ below.
Set for release on Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels imprint, the project takes in two fiery cuts from the Australia-born, Berlin-based artist, alongside remixes from house pioneer Fred P whom Velvet “bonded with in the airport on the way back to Berlin” last year. ‘Wasp Nest’ is the trippier of the pair, with volant drum work and ever-evolving synths that hum like its eponymous insect, whilst the slicker ‘Get Down’ melds crisp percussion and silken grooves with Fred P’s iconic vocal for a classy house excursion.
“The inspiration for ‘Wasp Nest’ came earlier this year when I was visiting my farm in outback Australia,” Velvet shared on the title track. “I found a giant wasp nest in one of the sheds, it was very intricate, alien and fascinatingly trippy. I wanted to create a unique synth track to reflect the hum of the wasps and the twisted beauty of their nest.”
It’s the house heavyweights first outing on London label Crosstown Rebels, following a string of genre-hopping two-tracker’s for Daniel Steinberg & Nils Ohrmann’s Arms & Legs imprint. Catch Kristin Velvet DJing at Poland’ s Summer Contrast Festival later this summer, alongside Dubfire, Jan Blomqvist, Kobosil and more.
‘Wasp Nest/Get Down’ is out 26th July via Crosstown Rebels. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Wasp Nest’ below.
