Ruff Sqwad return with first new music since 2015 hiatus, ‘Flee FM’: Listen

Legendary grime collective Ruff Sqwad have returned with a new record, ‘Flee FM’.

The seven-track release, which is now available on all streaming platforms, marks the first new material to emerge from the group since they went on hiatus in 2015.

‘Flee FM’ features verses from the trio of Rapid, Slix and David Is A King. The project, as referenced in the title, is packaged as if the trio were freestyling on a pirate radio set with classic grime instrumentals appearing across it.

Recognised as one of the pioneering acts of grime music, Ruff Sqwad came to prominence amid the genre’s rise through pirate radio in the ’00s. They were behind one of the sound’s most enduring instrumentals, ‘Functions On The Low‘, which Stormzy used on his UK Singles Chart Top 10 release, ‘Shut Up’, in 2015.

DJ Scholar, one of the early members of Ruff Sqwad, passed away in 2021.
