UK drive-in gig tours cancelled due to local coronavirus lockdown concerns

News

A run of UK drive-in gigs have been cancelled due to local coronavirus lockdown concerns.

Due to take place across the summer in UK cities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool and London, Utilita’s Live From The Drive-In events has been forced to cancel performances from Cream Classical, Dizzee Rascal, and The Streets amid growing concerns over localised lockdowns.

In a statement, Live Nation said: “The Live From Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer. We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners and of course you, the fans. However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it has become impossible for us to continue the series with any confidence.”

All ticket holders will recieve full refunds for the event, which were scheduled for July and August.

Earlier this month, the UK government announced a £1.57billion support package for the arts and culture industries struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic. It’s been four months since prime minister Boris Johnson officially ordered a list of venues, which included clubs, pubs, bars, food and drink venues, theatres, and concert halls, to close their doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although pubs and restaurants have re-opened, venues, theatres and concert halls remain closed.
