Isolate vocals, drums, melodies in real-time with the new version of VirtualDJ
News
VirtualDJ has announced a new version of their DJing software that allows users to separate parts of the track like vocals, drums and instrumentation in real-time while you DJ. Using a new AI system, the software isolates stems from tracks and lets users access acapella or drums to create mash-ups on the fly.
Using the new feature, which appears as switchable EQ bands, it’s possible to separate hi-hats, vocals, kick drum and more from a fully mixed track – VirtualDJ says about the new technology: “Using advanced mathematics and the power of today’s computers, it allows DJs to work on the fly with the various components of their tracks (vocals, instruments, kicks, hi hats, etc) in real-time to create new mash-ups, remixes and transitions. These huge developments mark the first time since the 1960s that a new technology in the DJing world is not merely making things easier, but brings a real change and opens the door to new ways of mixing that were simply not possible before.”
It’s a bold statement, and we have seen plugins and software that do this type of thing before, but not in DJ software and rarely in real time. It’ll be interesting to hear how it sounds. The new version is free for personal use, or $19 a month for a pro account, which gives you access to controllers, and other equipment. VirtualDJ already features streaming from Beatport LINK, Deezer, Soundcloud and Beatsource Link so genre-blending mashups are now possible, even if you don’t have your own record collection.
While there’s no video of the new feature yet, if it delivers on what it promises it’ll be a new shift for open-format DJs who can blend tracks and genres without hunting down acapellas and DJ edits. We’ll have a full review of VirtualDJ 2021 soon. You can download VirtualDJ 2021 here, right now.
