Joyce Sims, R&B singer-songwriter, dies, aged 63

American R&B singer-songwriter Joyce Sims has died, aged 63.

The artist, who hailed from Rochester in New York, was best known for her hit single, ‘Come Into My Life’. Co-written by Sims and Jamaican producer Kurtis Mantronik, the 1987 single peaked at seven in the UK singles chart and number 10 on the US Billboard R&B singles chart. It also charted highly in several European countries. Revisit it below.

While no cause of death has been given, Sims’ death was confirmed on social media by her family. Her sister, Annette Ramsey, said her “heart is broken,” and wrote on Facebook: “I will always remember the happy times we’ve shared, the love and support you have given me will not go in vain. I Love you Big Sis RIP.”

The events organiser CJ Carlos said: “Having spoken to her immediate family tonight, it’s with a heavy heart that I post this news Joyce Sims has passed away. Joyce was an amazing singer songwriter who had so many hits in the 80s.”

On Twitter, tributes have been made from throughout the electronic music world, some of which you can read below.

Sims had been touring in England this summer and had a new album in the works – 36 years on from her first hit, ‘All And All’, which reached the top 20 in the UK singles chart and number six in the US dance chart back in 1986.
