Berghain’s Ostgut DJ agency is shutting down

Ostgut Booking, Berghain’s artist agency, is to close at the end of 2022, Resident Advisor reports.

Eight employees will reportedly be made redundant when the agency’s closure comes into effect. No details have been shared about the 28 acts on the roster, which includes Answer Code Request, Marcel Dettmann, nd_Baumecker, Norman Nodge, Paramida, Efdemin,  Steffi, Virginia, and Tama Sumo. Five of those currently signed to the agency’s joined earlier this year: Sedef Adasï, Naty Seres, JakoJako, Fadi Mohem and Lakuti.

Launched a decade and a half ago, Ostgut Booking is the second Berghain-based operation to close in the past 12 months. Ostgut Ton, the label named after the Berlin venue’s legendary predecessor club, called time in December, bringing to an end 16 years of releases with an anniversary compilation, ‘Funfzhen +1’.

Berghain itself began welcoming ravers back last September following pandemic-enforced hiatus, and ranked sixth overall in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs 2022 poll, as voted for by readers.

Last month, Niamh O’Connor caught up with resident DJ and modular obsessive JakoJako at her studio in Berlin for our latest At Home With artist feature. Revisit Sedef Adasï’s contribution to DJ Mag’s Recognise mix and interview series here.
