‘90s rave crew Spiral Tribe’s live duo R-Zac reissue 1993 album of Free Party anthems: Listen

‘90s rave crew Spiral Tribe’s live duo R-Zac have reissued their 1993 album of ‘free party’ anthems, ‘Trailer Trax’.

On July 8th, the UK production duo – comprising Crystal Distortion and 69db – re-released a remastered version of the eight-track album, which was recorded in Berlin in 1993 from an abandoned trailer-turned-mobile recording studio. Out via PRSPCT Recordings, it marks the first reissue release as part of an ongoing collaboration between R-Zac and the label. Listen below.

Speaking about ‘Trailer Trax’, PRSPCT Recordings said: “When Spiral Tribe congregated in Berlin in the Winter of 1993, they found themselves squatting a series of trailers at Potsdamer Platz. In one of these trailers R-Zac was born. Musically the duo were transitioning from UK breakbeat techno as “The Spiral Tribe Liveset” into what would become R-Zac’s signature hard psychedelic sound. This double LP marks the beginning of that journey.”

“This is us finding our way into harder-sounding techno, whilst retaining the elements we love from original Chicago and Detroit music,” added R-Zac. “These tracks represent the pivoting point between the music we recorded with Spiral Tribe in the UK, and what was to come.”

A free party sound system formed in London in 1990, Spiral Tribe was involved in the Castlemorton Common Festival – the biggest and arguably the most infamous illegal rave that ever took place — in 1992. DJ Mag recently spoke to DiY Sound System co-founder Harry Harrison about his new book, Dreaming in Yellow: The Story of the DiY Sound System, and the collective’s trailblazing legacy in the free party movement.
