Spotify is testing an NFT gallery for artist profiles

Spotify has been testing an NFT gallery for artist profiles in the US.

As Music Ally reports, the music streaming giant has been trialling the feature on artist profile pages on a selection of Android devices in the US. Steve Aoki is among the artists who have signed up to display and sell their NFT wares. This feature is in addition to the merchandise and tour info that is now often incorporated into many artists’ profiles.

“Spotify is running a test in which it will help a small group of artists promote their existing third-party NFT offerings via their artist profiles,” they said. “We routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences. Some of those tests end up paving the way for a broader experience and others serve only as an important learning.”

Spotify is reportedly not collecting a commission on any of the NFT sales made as part of the test, but there’s no word yet whether they will eventually take a cut if and when the service is launched globally.

Last month, Swedish House Mafia became the first act to livestream on Spotify as part of the streaming platform’s new Spotify Live venture. The EDM trio live-streamed their set from their album release party in the California desert, which was hosted by Spotify with the likes of Alesso and Anitta also in attendance.

In 2021, it was reported that Spotify may soon allow users to control the levels of a vocal in any of the tracks in their catalogue.
