A new petition is calling for the UK government to continue to help the live music industry during the coronavirus pandemic.

With the government’s Job Retention Scheme – which has ensured many workers have been paid 80% of their wages up to £2500 – coming to an end on 31st October, the petition is a direct plea to extend the furlough scene for both the theatre and live music industry.

It comes amid a crisis within the industry in which the majority of UK music venues continue to face closure.

At the time of writing, more than 19,000 have signed the petition. At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be considered for debate in Parliament. You can sign it here.

Faithless’ Sister Bliss recently said clubs and DJs have been “left in the corner to rot”.

Last month, music industry workers marched in Manchester, calling on the government to provide for employees in the touring and festival events sectors.
