Yulo X: Harmonizing The Past And Present In Music

In the dynamic world of electronic music, where innovation leads the charge, Yulo X stands out with a sound that intricately weaves the old with the new.

In a recent candid interview, Yulo X offered a glimpse into his creative process and how he melds classical influences with modern beats to craft his unique sound.

“Piano and orchestral elements work very harmoniously together,” Yulo X shared, explaining the seamless integration of these components into his music. His approach involves a thoughtful blend of classical music’s depth with the pulsating rhythms of modern genres, creating a cross-genre appeal that shifts tracks from mere club beats to evocative, song-like compositions. He further detailed, “On some tracks of my upcoming album, I felt like incorporating these classical elements, which creates a bit of a cross-genre context.”

Yulo X’s sound is often described as both nostalgic and contemporary, a balancing act that he navigates with apparent ease. He attributes the nostalgic element to his roots in the ’90s dreampop and shoegaze, coupled with a deep-seated affinity for ’80s wave pop. “I just love the wall of sound and soundscapes,” he stated, highlighting his preference for melodically rich and sometimes melodramatic elements.

Discussing his latest single, ‘AMOR,’ Yulo X described it as one of his most experimental yet accessible works, noting its personal significance and thematic depth. “It’s about addictive behavior and compulsive actions, as well as contradictions—a theme that I generally explore more deeply on the album,” he revealed, offering insight into the complex emotional layers that his music often explores.

Berlin, the city renowned for its rich electronic music heritage, surprisingly plays only a partial role in influencing Yulo X’s creative journey. “The roots of my music come from a time when I hadn’t yet lived in Berlin,” he remarked, though he acknowledged the city’s impact on the contemporary aspects of his project. Interestingly, his single ‘elements of Berlin’ was produced under the sun on a rooftop terrace in La Gomera, hinting at the diverse inspirations that shape his music.

Exploration and experimentation are central to Yulo X’s production philosophy. His studio is a playground where small ideas are looped and layered, tested, and transformed into climactic arrangements. “My entire production approach is based on experimentation,” he said, detailing his process in Ableton where beats, percussions, and melodies converge to create magic.

Yulo X also touched on the emotional connection he aims to establish through his music, which he dubs “emotional electronica.” By leveraging melodies and warm, bass-heavy sound aesthetics, he strives to evoke a sense of immediacy and closeness. This dual-layer approach to emotion, both through melody and sound design, is a testament to his deep understanding of music as an expressive art form.

As Yulo X looks forward to the release of his album “Euphoria Ends,” he remains grounded yet optimistic about its reception. “I’m super excited,” he confessed, though he tempered his enthusiasm with a realistic outlook on modern listening habits. His dedication to the album format, despite the prevailing trend of singles, underscores his commitment to musical storytelling and his passion for the craft.

Through his blending of genres, thoughtful integration of classical elements, and emotional depth, Yulo X not only bridges musical eras but also connects deeply with his listeners, inviting them into his sonic world where every note and nuance tells a story.
