T.H.E Interview – Murphy’s Law

Murphy’s Law, the dynamic duo of Finn and Sonny, had an exhilarating summer, and they recently sat down with T.H.E to share their experiences, insights into their creative process, and plans for the future.

With significant achievements and thrilling performances under their belt, they’re looking ahead with excitement.

“Summer was crazy. It’s the first time that we have actually had a hectic summer full of shows, and we bloody loved it,” they shared with evident enthusiasm. They recalled the joy of making their Ibiza debut on the Amnesia Terrace for Metamorfosi and the excitement surrounding the release of ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ on Ministry of Sound.

The duo reflected on their massive edit of Christina Aguilera’s track, expressing, “It was such a great feeling to be able to actually get the record cleared by Christina and her team and put it out there for everyone who had been asking for it.” The journey to release was over a year-long, filled with anticipation. “When it hit number 1 on Beatport overall singles, that was the icing on the cake; it was such an incredible buzz to see it sit above some names we have looked up to for a long time.”

When asked about their production process, Murphy’s Law revealed that collaboration is key. “In 99% of the instances, both of us participated in every phase of production,” they shared, emphasizing their synergy. With a studio in their attic, the duo finds it easy to dive into creative sessions together.

Looking ahead, Murphy’s Law mentioned an edit of ‘Justin Timberlake – Señorita’ gaining social media traction, hoping to officially release it soon. They also teased collaborations with Riordan and Rob Stillekens, with tracks ‘Less Talk’ and ‘Feel It’ already receiving support from notable artists.

When asked about the components that make a track timeless, they humbly deferred, “That’s a hard one to answer, as only people who have truly stood the test of time can answer this question.” However, they believe a timeless track remains appealing years after its release.

Murphy’s Law draws inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Curtis Mayfield, Aswad, Steely Dan, Teddy Pendergrass, Nas, Outkast, and Gwen McCrae, among others. They also admire contemporary artists like Joseph Capriati, ANOTR, and Mike Dunn.

Reflecting on their Amnesia Ibiza debut, they described it as “surreal.” The night began with a swanky Italian meal, easing their nerves before the set. “Then the set itself went really well. We loved being able to play a much more warm-up style,” they recalled, noting the thrill of watching Joseph Capriati and Paul Kalkbrenner perform.

Considering alternative career paths, Finn mentioned photography and video work, while Sonny’s path remained uncertain. However, they both agreed, “We’ve always said we would rather scrape by doing music than be rich but in another field of work. Thank god for the music, hey!”

Looking forward, Murphy’s Law is excited about performing at the Rise Festival in the French Alps. They also teased their upcoming single ‘Need to Know’ on Ministry of Sound, and another single dropping on DFTD, describing it as “a much more club-ready track.”
