An Intimate Conversation with Toby Rose: Unraveling the Story Behind “Holiday”

In the contemporary music scene, very few songs strike a chord so deep that they resonate on a universal level, transcending borders, languages, and genres.

Toby Rose’s latest track, “Holiday”, promises to be one of those rare gems. Behind its evocative melodies lies a deeply personal tale, one that Toby was gracious enough to share in a candid conversation with us.

“Before I met my girlfriend, I didn’t really know what I wanted in life,” Toby starts, reflecting on the time before his romantic chapter began. The track is, in essence, a celebration of the transformative power of love. The kind of love that turns murky days into bright, hopeful ones. “Whenever I spend time with my girlfriend I have a certain inner peace and I take things at your own pace. It’s the exact same feeling many people have when they go on Holiday and that’s where the name of the song came from,” he elucidates.

Music, for many artists, is a reflection of their most intimate thoughts and feelings. It’s a space to lay bare vulnerabilities, aspirations, and cherished memories. Toby’s approach to translating his personal experiences into music is both touching and relatable. “I’m not always the best at telling my girlfriend how much I truly love her. So when I started writing the song, I wanted it to be something people could share with their loved ones,” he admits.

Collaborations in music are a dance of blending different creative energies. And when Toby collaborated with Daniel McMillan on “Holiday”, the result was pure magic. While Toby had the vision, finding the right voice to bring it to life was essential. “Before I decided that it should be Daniel singing the song, I went through quite a handful of other singers, but none could deliver the lyrics as strongly as Daniel could,” Toby shares. The trust he placed in Daniel was not just because of his vocal prowess but also his ability to empathize with the emotions of the song.

Discussing the song’s production, Toby reveals a departure from his usual process. Instead of starting with elaborate production, he began simply with a guitar, allowing raw emotion to be the song’s cornerstone. A brave choice, but one that has undoubtedly paid off.

Perhaps the most touching revelation from Toby was a hidden message in the song. In the second verse, he pays homage to a cherished memory with his girlfriend. The lyrics, “Oh, my horizons, I feel ‘em changing but they ain’t nothing like the pictures we are painting,” were inspired by a shared canvas painting session. It’s a tender memory of a shared moment, where perfection was secondary to the joy of togetherness.

As our conversation draws to a close, Toby shares a heartfelt message, “Find something in your daily life that can give you the feeling of a holiday. Our lives are extremely short, and many of us spend too much time stressing over insignificant things. If you truly love going on holiday, why not try to have that feeling every day when you wake up?”

Toby Rose’s “Holiday” is more than just a song. It’s an invitation to find joy, to cherish love, and to create moments that last a lifetime. With its beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, “Holiday” promises to be a timeless classic that will touch hearts across the world.
