Watch Jean-Michel Jarre, Cassius, Kitten, Anetha, more soundtrack Paris Paralympics closing ceremony
The Paris Paralympic Games came to a close over the weekend with a vibrant closing ceremony, soundtracked by numerous French electronic music legends. Check out some footage below.
Jean-Michel Jarre, Cassius, Kitten, Anetha and many others performed at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, with organisers stating they wanted the ceremony to “show we know how to party”.
The finale, which also took the name “Paris est une fête” (Paris is a Party), was lead by electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre, who played a live set to an attendance of over 80,000 Paralympic athletes and delegates including French président Emmanuel Macron and the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
Against a backdrop of lasers and fireworks, Jean-Michel Jarre delivered a set paying tribute to the past, present, and future of French electronic music. He then handed over to a line-up of French DJs and prodicers, including Alan Braxe, DJ Falcon, Agoria, Chloé Caillet, Irène Drésel, Kavinsky, Kungs, Kittin, Kiddy Smile, Busy P, Étienne De Crécy, Martin Solveig, DJ Falcon, and many more, with each artist playing one track after another.
Cassius’ Hubert Boombass made his first public appearance under the name since the passing in 2019 of one-half of the duo, Philippe Zdar. The one-off short DJ set was presented as a tribute to Zdar by Boombass.
If you’re based in the UK, you can watch the full closing ceremony here via Channel 4, with the musical portion starting around the 30 minute mark.
Earlier this summer, several high-profile French artists closed out the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, including performances by Justice, AIR, Kavinsky, and many others.
