
Watch a new documentary on the “comeback” of hard house
A new documentary exploring the resurgent popularity of hard house has been released. You can watch the film in full below.
With a particular focus on the genre’s history in the Netherlands, The Comeback of Hard House features interviews with some of the genre’s freshest faces and established veterans, including Club Caviar, Klubbheads, B.O.B. Ltd, Maruwa and Bengal.
Tracing the sound’s roots in the Dutch club scene and the legacy of seminal labels like Midtown, the film then connects this to a contemporary crop of high energy DJs and producers, including KI/KI and KETTAMA.
Released by Armada Music, the organisation’s Amsterdam headquarters will also host a 15-minute preview screening tonight, Thursday 5th June, from 7PM CEST. This is followed by sets from Kara-okay, Kyle Starkey, Club Caviar and Eva Vrijdag.
Last year, another documentary, Don’t Ever Stop, was released with focused on the UK hard house scene during the 1990s, its links to queer nightlife and the legendary DJ and producer Tony De Vit. Widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of the sound, in 2022 he was honoured with a blue heritage plaque outside Birmingham’s Custard Factory recording studios, where he worked on more than 100 original tracks and remixes.
