A new enhanced Spotify playlist celebrating the 20th anniversary of Daft Punk’s ‘Discovery’ features unseen footage and interview snippets.
Last month, french electronic duo Daft Punk, made up of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, rocked the music industry when they announced that they were splitting up after 28 years. The announcement came just days before the 20th anniversary of the duo’s iconic 2001 album, ‘Discovery’.
To mark the occasion, Spotify have released an Enhanced Playlist, featuring exclusive clips, quotes and snippets from a “lost” Japanese interview with the duo in 2001. Using Spotify’s Canvas and Storyline functions, the playlist also includes unseen concept art and storyboards from the album’s animated companion film, Interstella 5555, which the duo spent a reported $4 million to make.
Since announcing their split, Rolling Stone’s analtyic provider, Alpha Data, reported that streams for Daft Punk’s catalog soared nearly 500% on the Monday following their split compared to Sunday, with song sales up 1,335%, and digital album sales up 2,650%. Their most recent album, ‘Random Access Memories’, was the best-selling dance music album on vinyl of the decade.
