Unreleased Q Lazzarus songs and extended ‘Goodbye Horses’ mix announced for Dark Entries
Unreleased songs by Q Lazzarus, and rare mixes of the cult anthem ‘Goodbye Horses’, will be released via Dark Entries on 7th March 2025. All five tracks on the package were previously unavailable and recordings have been sourced from original masters.
Lazzarus, AKA Diane Luckey, was living in New York’s East Village in the mid-1980s when she made the iconic single with songwriter Bill Garvey. A chance meeting with movie director Jonathan Demme then led to the music being used in his comedy ‘Married To The Mob’, and later the award-winning thriller ‘Silence of the Lambs’.
“Over 15 years of effort have gone into the making of this release,” read a statement from Dark Entries, shared on Instagram. “It is an opportune moment to reflect on the underrecognised artists we have lost and the undeniable brilliance of both Diane Luckey and William Garvey.”
Alongside the extended mix, instrumental and acapella versions, the Dark Entries offering includes a B-side of unheard material from Lazzarus. ‘Hellfire’, named after a New York BDSM club, and ‘Summertime’, complete the release. Each copy is pressed with an insert including liner notes, archival interview with the artist, lyric sheets, and photos. Pre-orders are available now.
News of the ‘Goodbye Horses’ revisit comes just after the announcement of a new documentary about Lazarus, Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, accompanied by a compilation soundtrack, including unheard work, which is out now on Sacred Bones. Work on the film was possible thanks to a fundraising campaign by director and writer Eva Aridjis. Lazzarus died in 2022, aged 59.
