The trailer has been released for a new grime film, titled Against All Odds.
Centered around the story of MC Active, an artist trying to make it in the early ’00s grime scene, the film documents his ambitions as well as his struggles, and is the first project to be released by the newly-launched Motown Records UK.
Directed by British directors, actors and Grime pioneers Femi Oyeniran, who starred in Kidulthood, and Nicky “Slimting” Walker, the will also feature a host of key players who helped lay the foundations from grime, including D Double E, Ghetts, Jammer, and Diesel, who all play themselves. J2K also stars in the film, but in a leading role as character Guv. The soundtrack’s line-up is impressive, too, with D Double E, Sir Spyro and Capo Lee all featuring on the score’s credits.
Invoking true grime nostalgia, Against All Odds have collaborated with LINK UP TV to bring back legendary British grime satellite channel, Channel U, for the film’s premiere on the 13th November. There will also be a screening of old school content, including the Ace & Vis Show, and Asqueezy’s Chart Show.
“Against All Odds is our visual homage to one of the most potent expressions of Black british music, Grime,” Oyeniran and Walker said in a press release. “To get the opportunity to create the musical accompaniment to the first ever Grime movie, with a team led by Rob Pascoe and Afryea Henry-Fontaine has been a pleasure. They have supported us every step of the way. The music and the film are a celebration of Black British Heritage; there is no better home for that, than the legendary Motown.”
