Tiffany Calver announces new weekly BBC Radio 1 Xtra show

Tiffany Calver is starting a new weekly BBC Radio 1 Xtra show on Fridays from 9PM – 11PM, starting 9th June.

‘The Tiffany Calver Show’ will take its lead from the host’s highly varied and energy-packed sets, which have made an impact everywhere from basement clubs to Drake’s UK and European tour dates, and Paris Fashion Week. Covering baile funk, UK funky, amapiano, hip-hop, Afrobeats, R&B, garage and more, the announcement is just one in a number of scheduling changes at the station.

“I am so excited to announce my new show on the network. It represents a new era for me where I can continue to champion, celebrate and honour the music that I love with total freedom. It’s a privilege to be recognised by the BBC as a tastemaker and to be able to continue to move into the role that made me fall in love with radio,” said Calver.

Elsewhere, a host of new 11PM – 1AM slots are switching up. This includes Calver’s old residency, the ‘1Xtra Rap Show’, which will be fronted by Kenny Allstar from Friday 9th June. The new format will incorporate his celebrated Voice of the Streets freestyle series.

On 6th June, UK grime don Sir Spyro will move from Friday to Tuesday night. Fans of the regular Sounds of the Verse feature, where guests are given 140 seconds to spit bars over 140BPM tracks, will be pleased to know this is also making the jump. Monday nights, meanwhile, welcome DJ, model and TV personality Snoochie Shy from 5th June.

“Excited to start my brand new show on 1Xtra. I’m still gonna be playing the best Grime out but now, on your Tuesday nights. I’ll have the biggest interviews, guest mixes, old school mixes, instrumental mixes – the lot,” Spyro said of the news.
