There's a virtual '90s rave this weekend

News

This saturday, 4th April, a virtual ‘90s-inspired rave will be live streamed online.

The stream will be hosted on the Facebook page of Scottish festival, The Ultimate 90’s Rave, which was originally set to take place this weekend but was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The virtual rave will see 10 prominent ‘90s DJs from the festival’s line-up, including Judge Jules, Slipmatt and Adamski, playing live streamed sets from 6 pm. Housebound ravers will be able to comment and interact with one another and the DJs throughout the evening. Check out the full line-up below.

The Ultimate 90’s Rave, headlined by ‘Sandstorm’ legend Darude, has already been rescheduled, and is now expected to take place on 11th July at The Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston.

If you’re looking for something to read to get you in the zone for the virtual rave, why not read our feature telling the story of how ‘90s rave Fantazia brought UK dance music to the masses. Or if you’re more in the mood for a film, why not check out ‘90s rave culture movie, Beats, our review of which you can read here.

Many clubs around the world have been turning to live streaming events across the globe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, with New York club Nowadays hosting an ongoing string of virtual parties. Berlin Club Commission and Reclaim Club Culture also launched an initiative, teaming up with the likes of arte, radioeins, ALEX TV, ifbbw and Berlin imprint SUAL to launch United We Stream, with clubbers able to exchange donations for “Virtual Club Tickets”. One Third club in Beijing has reportedly earned $300,000 from live streaming.

DJ Mag are asking our readers — if they can — to support clubs and other nightlife causes that are under threat due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have curated a support directory here, demonstrating the ways you can help.
