Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe venue has been renamed Avicii Arena in honour of the late-Swedish electronic music star, real name Tim Bergling.

The decision has been brought about through collaboration between the Tim Bergling Foundation, ASM Global’s Stockholm Live, Trygg-Hansa and Bauhaus, and will see the space used as a ‘global hub for sharing ideas on young people’s mental health’. To mark the occasion, The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has recorded a new version of the artist’s track, ‘For A Better Day’.

“It was a significant milestone in Tim’s career when he played here 9 years ago, and he would be extremely proud that this iconic building from today will bear his name,” Klas Bergling, Tim Bergling Foundation co-founder, said in a statement.

“Being able to use one of Sweden’s most famous and visited buildings as a symbol and meeting place for one of the most important societal issues of our time in the way we now do together with our partners feels fantastic,” added Andreas Sand, CEO of Stockholm Live, the company that manages Avicii Arena.

‘For A Better Day’ also lends its title to an ongoing project spearheaded by the Tim Bergling Foundation, inviting young people to send their personal worries and concerns to the organisation. All submissions will be passed to Sweden’s Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven, in August.

Avicii tragically died in April 2018, aged 28. The loss sent shockwaves across and beyond the dance music world, leading to the establishment of the Tim Bergling Foundation, which works to explore preventive measures in relation to suicide and promote conversations around mental health, the environment and animal rights. Earlier this year, a new Stockholm memorial site was also announced in tribute to the artist, while a long-awaited official biography has been confirmed to arrive in November.
