Snoop Dogg sexual assault lawsuit dismissed by accuser

Content warning: this article contains information relating to allegations of sexual assault.

A lawsuit filed against Snoop Dogg in February for an alleged sexual assault has now been dropped by the complainant.

The lawsuit against the rapper was filed with relation to allegations of sexual assault and battery dating back to 2013, and the Jane Doe accuser alleged that she had worked regularly with him. The plaintiff, however, failed to respond with evidence for this claim as court proceedings progressed.

She filed the suit in a Los Angeles federal court on 9th February, claiming that Snoop (real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) and his associate Bishop Don “Magic” Juan (Donald Campbell) assaulted her after she attended one of the rapper’s concert in California on 29th May, 2013. Snoop had responded by asking a federal judge to dismiss the suit, claiming the allegations were “implausible and false”.

He filed a 17-page dismissal request in late February, in which he denied cornering the woman in a recording studio bathroom and forcing her to perform a sex act. “Nothing remotely resembling plaintiff’s story about defendant Calvin Broadus ever happened,” Snoop’s lawyers wrote in court filings. “He vehemently denies ever engaging in any sex act with the plaintiff or assaulting or battering her.”

Since Snoop’s most recent request for dismissal, the plaintiff has now withdrawn her suit “without prejudice”. This comes after Snoop and his lawyers asked the court to dismiss the allegations “with prejudice” because a filing deadline was missed.

Rolling Stone quoted the woman’s lawyer as saying that the suit withdrawal was done in such a way that would preserve his client’s right to bring another suit on the same grounds. Asked whether he stood by his client’s accusations, the lawyer said, “Yes, of course.” The plaintiff has offered no further comment in the wake of the withdrawal of the lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, was quoted as saying: “It is not surprising that the plaintiff dismissed her complaint against the defendants. Her complaint was full of false allegations and deficiencies.”
