Sijya signs with One Little Independent Records, shares ‘Tabla’: Listen

Sijya has signed with One Little Independent Records.

The New Delhi-born composer, producer and graphic artist is due to release her first EP for the UK label on 12th September.

‘Leather & Brass’ was “shaped with the guidance” of Matthew Herbert and Hugh Jones (aka Crewdson) and is described in a press release as an “exploration of weight, density, and contrast, in sound and in sentiment”.

“This EP feels like beginning of me trying to find a sound”, said the artist, describing the album process as “a major learning curve”. “During the making of it, many producers (mostly men) wanted to jump on and produce it for me, effectively making an artist of the pop model out of me. That would have been way easier, but that didn’t feel right at all,” she added.

She continued: “It gave me a lot of confidence that Matthew and Hugh always saw me as a producer. And they were always interacting with me in that way, giving me feedback and suggesting tricks and tools that would help me with my chops”.
