Sicaria shares new single, ‘Still Swingin’: Listen
Sicaria has shared a new single off her upcoming debut EP, ‘Blood, Sweat & Self‘. Listen to ‘Still Swingin’ below.
This is the second hint of the London artist’s first record, following ‘Freak 2 Freak‘. It’s influenced by her Moroccan heritage, particularly the percussion of traditional Gnawa music.
“Drawing deeply from my Moroccan heritage, it serves as a love letter to the rich traditions and captivating rhythms of Gnawa music”, Sicaria said about the new track. “Gnawa ceremonies have always held a profound fascination for me. Their deeply hypnotic, trance-inducing melodies use music and dance to summon ancestral saints, believed to possess healing powers. To recreate this entrancing atmosphere, I wove in rhythmic melodies and call-and-response chants that echo the spirit of Gnawa.”
The four-track ‘Blood, Sweat & Self’ EP, out 17th November, will also mark Sicaria’s debut as a solo artist, after the first iteration of the dubstep project, the Sicaria Sound duo with Sancha Ndeko, wound down in 2022. (Ndeko now works under the alias Mia Koden.)
Earlier this year, Sicaria shared what’s in her record collection as part of DJ Mag’s Selections series — dive in here.
