Sasha has been awarded an honorary degree from the university he first DJ’d at.

Following a performance on the Glade stage at Glastonbury 2022 (24th June), the legendary DJ and producer stepped into an academic gown on Tuesday (5th July) to receive the degree from his hometown university in Bangor, North Wales, reports The Bangor Aye.

Born in Bangor, Sasha took on his first DJ gig at Bangor University students’ union but has held onto his roots in spite of his international stardom, having recently got behind the decks at a Bangor University club night in 2021.

“Thank you so much to the university for this really humbling, beautiful award,” said Sasha. “I didn’t expect to come back to Bangor University to be picking up a degree since it was the place where I did my very first gig in the Students’ Union and it’s taken me around the world!”

“It gives me great pleasure to present a Bangor-born Sasha for this honour. Sasha has made an outstanding contribution to culture, language, music and the arts through his creativity and his work is recognised and held in high-esteem in the music industry across the globe. An honorary degree of Doctor of Music is very well-deserved,” commented Professor Andrew Edwards, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bangor University, who presented Sasha with the degree.
