salute shares new single, ‘maybe it’s u’, featuring Sam Gellaitry: Listen

salute has shared a new single, ‘maybe it’s u’, featuring Scottish producer and vocalist Sam Gellaitry. You can listen to the track below.

The third single to be taken from salute’s forthcoming album, it follows previously unveiled cuts ‘saving flowers‘, featuring Rina Sawayama, and ‘system‘. The full LP, ‘TRUE MAGIC’, is slated to land on 12th July via Ninja Tune, with guest appearances from Disclosure, Empress Of, Karma Kid, LEILA, and Léa Sen also included.

“I took a pop approach to the record,” said salute. “I went in quite blindly just with some loops and ideas but there’s much more of a focus on songwriting and collaboration on this album. In dance music there always seems to be this focus on doing everything yourself but I wanted to get a team around me to develop the ideas I had.

“One thing I’m really proud of is how organic the work with the collaborators is. I’ve managed to get such a breadth of amazing people on the record,” they added, before explaining the concept behind the album — racing in an outdated Asian automobile. “Watching old TV recordings my parents made on VHS led me to comfort watch old ad compilations on Youtube, then eventually old car ads, and finally I stumbled upon old Japanese car ads through a rabbit hole.”

News of the single comes just after Vienna-born, Manchester-based salute picked up their first ever nomination at the 2024 MOBO Awards in the Best Electronic/Dance Act for the EP ‘Shield’. Arriving last May, the four-tracker adds to a back catalogue boasting collaborations with the likes of Four Set, DJ Seinfeld, Floating Points, Mall Grab, Daphni, Skrillex, and Fred again…
