Rhythm Lab Records and Reform Radio announce International Women’s Day Zoom event for up-and-comers in music industry

Rhythm Lab Records and Reform Radio have announced a International Women’s Day event for up-and-comers in music industry.

The event, Girls Just Wanna, is a free, five-hour Zoom call open to cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centres around the experiences of women. Organised by Reform Radio and their inhouse label, Rhythm Lab Records, the event has been funded by Youth Music, along with Arts Council England and Reform Radio sponsor, Jägermeister.

From 1PM – 6PM on the 8th of March, attendees will be given the chance to network with peers and attend workshops, as well as listen to talks from inspiring industry professionals, including BBCR1 Xtra DJ and DJ Mag UK’s March coverstar, Jamz Supernova.

Learning about everything from brand building to the distribution process, other talks and workshops will come from the likes of independent business affairs advisor, Mike Burgess (Sound With Mike), and self-managed artist and music marketer, Keely Hutchinson (Hot Minute, Sound With Mike).

Speaking about the event, Reform Radio’s Director Jemma Tanswell (who will also open the day’s events), said: “It is important to us that we fight for the ideals of equality and empowerment that International Women’s Day highlights. Equally important, however, is our commitment to embodying this spirit for the remaining 364 days of the year. Our International Women’s Day event is a small but significant part of this mission statement and we hope that the skills and connections made will continue to benefit attendees throughout their journeys into the music industry.”

You can sign up for Girls Just Wanna via Eventbrite.

In January this year, UK-based label Scuffed Recordings announced an artist development scheme for women and non-binary people.

Elsewhere, in September, a new label, SOS Music, was launched in collaboration with !K7 and Los Angeles-based radio station DUBLAB, with a goal to provide a platform for electronic music produced by women and non-binary artists.
