Primavera Sound officially cancels 2021 festival

News

Primavera Sound has officially cancelled its 2021 edition.

After being forced to cancel the 2020 instalment of Primavera Sound in Barcelona, the team behind the festival have shared the news that this year’s event will also be unable to go ahead due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“It is with great sadness that we must announce that the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound Barcelona is postponed until 2022 due to force majeure,” Primavera said in a statement on Facebook. “We have tried everything, but we have now made this very painful decision due to the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework for large events on the original dates of the festival from June 2nd to June 6th.

“Which, added to the restrictions that currently exist, mean that we cannot work normally on the preparation of the festival nor ensure that, once the date arrives, it can be celebrated.”

Ticket holders can keep their tickets for the 2022 edition of the event, or request a full refund from the 2nd June.

In February, it was announced that Calfornian festival Coachella had been forced to cancel this year’s event, and that Glastonbury had also cancelled its annual festival for the second year running.
