Premiere: S.A.M. ‘Tiger Balm’

Premiere: S.A.M. ‘Tiger Balm’

S.A.M. will release a new EP, ‘Check It Out’, on Up The Stuss later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Tiger Balm’ below.

The project – out tomorrow (9th August) – follows the Danish DJ and producer’s 2021 ‘Get Together’ EP, alongside label boss Chris Stussy, and features four late-night house slammers.

Though darker and deeper in places than their previous output, the tracks on ‘Check It Out’ are connected by the same transcendental thread. Hazy chords are layered over a punchy yet narcotic groove on the title track, ahead of the minor-key arp action and slinking basslines of standout cut, ‘Tiger Balm’.

“‘Tiger Balm’ is a tribute to my two cats,” S.A.M. – who is now based in Amsterdam – shared. “Fierce, beautiful, dynamic, and most of all they make me laugh. This track makes me feel the exact same way.”

More limber club rollers populate the B-side, including ‘Race To Lose’, with its palette of spacey melodies and bumping percussion to carry you deep into the night, followed by the plush, vintage house textures of closer ‘Forever Rhodes’.

S.A.M. has refined their ear for silky house sounds as founder of three Dam-based labels –Delaphine, Dahlia, and Oscillat – as well as through DJ sets at Amsterdam hotspots Thuishaven, Shelter and Garage Noord. Catch the label boss performing at Holland’s Loveland Festival this weekend alongside the likes of Chris Stussy, Anfisa Letyago, Denis Sulta, Honey Dijon and more.

‘Check It Out’ is out tomorrow (9th August) via Up The Stuss. Pre-save the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Tiger Balm’ below.
