Premiere: Kassian ‘Yami’

Premiere: Kassian ‘Yami’

Kassian will release their new ‘Supercontinent’ EP later this week on !K7 Records. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Yami’ below.

Synthesised from their new hardware-heavy studio in a north-east London container complex, the duo’s second EP of the year – following March’s ‘Fleuron Drift’ – speaks directly from the hips. Slinking acid lines and chuggy synths collide with restless amapiano and Baile funk-inspired rhythms across four mutant club workouts, arriving on Friday both digitally and on 100% recycled vinyl.

Opener ‘Yena’ channels the rhythmic innovation of amapiano’s greats, with deep swinging grooves and log drums sped-up to the nines, whilst the acid-flecked ‘Yami’ and ‘Pulgueiro Baile’ are faultlessly carved for the club. B2 ‘Sistema Baile’ ends things on a more minimal tip, stitching dubbed-out textures to an unremitting Roland System 1 synth line, as Kassian continue to expand the limits of their leftfield club sound.

‘Supercontinent’ marks the latest in a string of vibrant releases on Berlin-based !K7 Records, including SUCHI’s March EP, ‘Ghungroo’,  HAAi’s hyperkinetic DJ-Kicks mix, and the recent single ‘Remedies’, from Eddington Again.

‘Supercontinent’ is out 24th May via !K7 Records. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Yami’ below.
