Premiere: Henzo ‘Take Stock, Touch Grass’
Henzo will release his debut studio album, ‘The Poems We Write For Ourselves’, later this month. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Take Stock, Touch Grass’ below.
The Manchester-based artist, whose deadly and discerning take on dubstep, garage and bass music has already graced labels such as TraTraTrax and Nervous Horizon, explores new depths on his long-anticipated full-length debut.
Featuring 10 tracks spanning low-end contortions, halfstep slow burners, dubbed-out techno and more, ‘The Poems We Write For Ourselves’ finds Henzo diving deeper into the diverse roots of UK underground dance music, pairing dancefloor rigour with consistently artful sound design.
Our pick of the bunch is track two, ‘Take Stock, Touch Grass’: a sparse, loopy club tool inspired by the work of early 2010s innovators like Bambounou and French Fries. “The track is designed for the dancefloor,” Henzo shared, “all business and no frills.”
The record arrives alongside a tape version of the artist’s debut live performance, recorded in full in the “intimate confines” of Manchester’s Stage and Radio basement. The live tape reinterprets the tracks and splices them with omitted material from the time of writing, and is available to buy on the artist’s Bandcamp.
‘The Poems We Write For Ourselves’ is out 27th June via Sneaker Social Club. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Take Stock, Touch Grass’ below.
