Premiere: DJ IC & DJ Jim Mastershine ‘The Convention’

DJ IC & DJ Jim Mastershine have linked up on a new single, ‘The Convention’, landing later this week. Have an exclusive first listen below.

Arriving via independent UK label, All Shades of The Drum Recordings, the project is the latest in a string of collaborative releases from the duo, including the ‘Adrenaline’ EP in 2021 alongside G Boy SA, and 2023’s ‘Meremeta’, featuring vocalist Idd Aziz.

Crafted over a series of phone and video calls, in which London-based IC and South Africa’s Mastershine exchanged ideas and files, ‘The Convention’ emerges as an infectious Afro-Tech heater. Infused with the sounds of SA’s emerging 3-step genre, with additional motifs from amapiano and deep house, the track is buoyed by massive log drum hits, sub bass wobbles, and a vibrant, insatiable energy.

‘The Convention’ finds DJ IC returning to his rolling, percussive roots, having explored the emotional limits of Afro house on his soulful ‘My Story’ EP, released last October. Paired with the watertight rhythms and intoxicating grooves of DJ Jim Mastershine, who has made huge strides in the SA house scene since debuting with the ‘Relief’ EP in 2018, it’s undoubtedly the duo’s most hypnotic offering to date.

‘The Convention’ is out this week via All Shades of The Drum Recordings. Have an exclusive first listen below.
